How to choose glasses for your face shape
How to choose glasses for your face shape
When looking for new glasses, identifying your face shape and which frame styles complement it best
are key in finding your perfect pair. To help you in this, we’ve put together this short video & fun
article.
First thing’s first: Determining your face shape.
All you need is a mirror, a dry-erase marker, and, if you have long hair, a hair tie. Stand in front
of a mirror, and trace your face’s outline with the marker. Now, you can identify whether your face
shape is more oval, square, heart-shaped or round.

Oval-shaped faces have a jawline that’s slightly narrower than the forehead,
complemented by
high
and angled cheekbones. Luckily for those who have it, pretty much any frame style looks
good
on
it.
Recommended frame styles: Everything, but especially cat-eyes and rectangular
frames.

You’ll recognize a square-shaped face by its broad forehead and strong jawlines. It
works best with styles that soften these features and slightly elongate the face.
Recommended frame styles: Round and oval, the thinner the better.

With its broad forehead and wide cheekbones that narrow down to a small chin, a
heart-shaped face can work with quite a few styles. It’s usually not a great fit for
frames with chunky browlines.
Recommended frame styles: Oval, cat-eye, rimless is excellent.

Usually relatively short faces with rounded chins, full cheeks and a wide forehead.
Glasses with sharper angles work best with round-shapes faces, while roundish and
oversized frames don’t make a great match.
Recommended frame styles: Square, rectangular, the narrower the better.
We’ve now gone through the four major faces shapes, but there are two more which might not be as
common, but are still worth mentioning:
Oblong faces: Longer than they are wide, with long and straight cheek lines. Aviators
(oversized
especially) and wide square frames are excellent for oblong faces. It’s best to avoid
rectangular and in general narrow frames.

Diamond-shaped faces: Narrow jaws, narrow eyelines, with high and broad cheekbones. Best:
Frames with bold, chunky browlines work best with this face shape; cat-eyes are awesome too.
Avoid: Frames that draw attention to the narrow eyeline.
