Bold and beautiful

Remember how fabulous Bey looked in the Partition music video wearing bold black frames and even bolder red lips? How about Meryl Streep rocking metallic frames while strolling down the red carpet? And Oprah and Gaga both seem to favor bold black frames with lots of eye makeup and smooth looking skin. But not all of us have a glam squad on speed dial helping us figure out exactly how to wear makeup with eyeglasses, but don’t despair.

Top makeup tips for girls who wear glasses

If you’re still trying to figure out how to wear makeup with your eyeglasses, you’re in luck! We asked some of our favorite beauty gurus for tips on how to wear makeup with glasses, and here’s what they had to say:

Tip 1: Less is more

Instead of layering on loads of makeup with your glasses, you should be light-handed. Because let’s face it, you want people to notice the way your favorite frames enhance your look so everyone sees your best features shining through — not the makeup.

“Piling on the foundation and/or concealer will just cause creases or indent lines on your face that are entirely unnecessary and unwanted,” said celebrity makeup artist Hayley Kassel. She added a tip we never would have thought of “try and avoid adding too much product to the bridge of your nose. This is where our glasses sit all day, so the less makeup you have sitting underneath, the less you will have those pesky smudges/indents.”

Tip 2: Play up your pout

“A bright lip complements glasses so well by adding that extra pizazz,” said beauty expert and educator Brandy Allen. When choosing a lip color, try to complement the frame color of your glasses.” We’re crazy about these stunning pink frames in a gorgeous rose shade. Paired with a soft pinky mauve gloss, this would be a perfect look for your next Zoom meeting or girls’ night in.

Tip 3: Consider the style of glasses

Allen said that “Choosing the most flattering glasses for your face will help improve the look of your makeup application.” In other words, pay attention to your frame before deciding on how to apply your makeup. “From the color of the frame, the shape and style of your glasses, this all plays a part in how your makeup will look as well.”

If you’d like to keep things simple, consider a frame that adds a bit of interest to your look but is subtle enough to wear with any type of makeup. These clear glasses have a retro ‘90s feel and are versatile enough to wear with anything. If you can, treat yourself to different frames that suit your moods or personality type.

Tip 4: Invest in great makeup brushes

Allen said that “Choosing the most flattering glasses for your face will help improve the look of your makeup application.” In other words, pay attention to your frame before deciding . One of the biggest mistakes many women who wear eyeglasses make is not blending their makeup properly or applying blotchy looking powder on top of a completed look. While you can possibly get away with it when wearing your contacts, the lenses on your glasses might magnify all your makeup mistakes. “For flawless makeup application, good brushes are essential,” said international makeup artist Kelly Dawn Mitchell. “Brushes are a great investment, and they last for years.”

Tip 5: Be a curl girl

While “long and luscious lashes are a favorite to most, they might compete with your glasses,” Allen said. “Instead of choosing a lengthening mascara, maybe consider a curling mascara or curling your lashes after the application.” And don’t forget to groom your brows and fill in any sparse areas.
