Delivering eye care to the most remote corner of the world.

In November, NSBA partnered with GlassesUSA.com and the Miss America Organization to deliver vision screenings and free eyewear to students in Saint Mary’s, Alaska — one of the most remote cities in the U.S.

Miss America 2022 was there too!

As a special treat for the students, Miss America 2022 Emma Broyles and Miss Alaska 2022 Jessica Reisinger were present to greet them and help in selecting eyewear. You can hear Broyles talk about her experience at Saint Mary’s by visiting https://tinyurl.com/saintmarysvisit.

Vision screenings.

While vision screenings might be common occurrences in most U.S. cities, residents in Saint Mary’s face the challenge of buying an expensive ticket and flying to meet the closest optometrist. This poses a significant challenge in a place where the entire community lives below the poverty line.

“For students in rural areas, including our most remote cities, educational challenges may include limited broadband access and hard-to-find medical, dental, and vision care, necessities that some of us may take for granted,” said NSBA Executive Director and CEO Dr. John Heim. “This partnership with GlassesUSA.com ensured that students in Saint Mary received the vision screening and eyewear necessary for their future success, both in school and in life.”
