This is the fourth installment of five interesting and true stories coming from the employees at GlassesUSA who wear prescription eyeglasses. Their stories tell us how they found out they needed vision correction and why they choose to wear eyeglasses. The third story comes from one of our sales employees...
"I have never worn eyeglasses - ever. Not as a kid and never during my college experience. In fact, I never thought they made a person look smarter or sexier - I just thought it was something people wore because they could not see. It wasn't until I actually started working at GlassesUSA that it finally hit me that I should probably go get my eyes examined. I really didn't think that my eye sight was bad but I figured that since I worked for a company that sold eyeglasses, I may as well go get my eyes checked because you just never know if your vision is correct!
As a kid, my eye sight was always 20/20. I had my eyes checked every two years because my parents made me. As a kid, the only person in my family to wear prescription glasses was my grandmother - and even she was only prescribed glasses when she was in her 50's ... and they were for reading and her knitting work. As my parents got older, they too needed eyeglasses to help them see but I kind of just figured that my eye sight would be ok until I hit her age. Unfortunately, I am nearing the middle of my life.
I went to the eye doctor and low and behold- I actually did need eyeglasses. I learned I have great eye sight but I have an astigmatism which makes it hard for me to see objects due to the refraction of light. It makes things a little blurry but it's a blurriness that I've never noticed before. When the doctor started to examine my eyes, I noticed that I started to see things a lot more clearly.
While I was apprehensive about wearing eyeglasses, I knew I would like contact lenses even less. I started to try on a few different styles of eyeglass frames and found a few that I liked. At the end of my appointment I asked my doctor for my prescription and noticed my pupillary distance was not located on the prescription. I asked the optician to check my pupillary distance just to be on the safe side. I did get a hint of attitude because they knew I was not going to purchase glasses from them but she obliged and measured me anyway.
When I returned to the office, I promptly went to our website and started searching for eyeglasses. Pretty soon, half of my department had an opinion on what style I should wear. I chose a pair of sweet, lady-like looking eyeglass frames named Bergen. They sit a little lower on my nose, more like reading glasses but they look a lot sexier than what I could find at the drug store!
I've never been happier! I love them!" D.Z.
