This is the third installment of five fascinating and true stories coming from the employees at GlassesUSA who wear prescription eyeglasses. These stories tell us how they found out they needed vision correction and why they choose to wear eyeglasses. The third story comes from one of our sales employees...
"I was completely unaware that I needed vision correction until I was in my junior year of college. I was studying for a statistics exam and I could not for the life of me figure out why I kept getting headaches. My vision would go blurry as I was studying - which was extremely annoying! At first, I thought I was studying too much. The words and numbers on the pages would blend together and then become blurry. The closer I got to the words, the harder it was to see what the words said. This made doing my school work a bit difficult.
I started noticing that it was not just my statistics work that I could not see, it was also my English literature readings, my accounting homework, and nearly everything else that involved reading. At the time, I decided homework was detrimental to my health. A friend in my sorority decided she was going to kidnap me and take me to the eye doctor to see if I need prescription glasses. The doctor checked my eyes and said I hadhyperopia - meaning I could not see or focus on objects that were up close. He also explained that my vision is not that bad and simple reading glasses could fix my vision problems. Granted, at 21 years-old, the last thing I wanted to hear was that I needed glasses.
Much like my first pair of high heels or the first time I dyed my hair - I will never forget my first pair of eyeglass frames. I am pretty sure I tried on every pair of frames they had in the office. I wound up having to come back to the office the next day because wearing eyeglasses would be a huge adjustment for me. It was almost too much to handle. When I came back, I found a pair of frames that were black plastic with red lining inside. They remind me of the Lady Liberty frame.
When I received my glasses about a week later, I wore them out for the first time and, not surprisingly, I was able to see my notes and readings! I haven't turned back since. I love my eyeglasses! I've been wearing my glasses for about 10 years now - I cannot imagine not wearing glasses now!" -S.T.
